MAINTAINING A LAMINATE WORKTOP?

MAINTAINING A LAMINATE WORKTOP?

The laminate used for kitchen worktops consists of panels covered with phenolic resin impregnated foils; it is a versatile and durable material, not susceptible to steam, scratches or impacts. A laminate kitchen worktop is also a hygienic choice because it is easy to maintain: it is resistant to cutting by food, minor damage caused by water and acidic food, and easily cleaned.

To keep the aesthetics and performance of your laminate worktop intact, all it takes is a few precautions.

 1. Choose the right cleaning products

 2. Beware of excessive heat

 3. Beware of stagnating water and acid substances

1. Choose the right products to clean a laminate worktop

Here are some tips on how to clean a laminate worktop and the products to use: Clean your stained laminate kitchen worktop using a microfibre cloth moistened with water or a neutral detergent. Do not use steel scouring pads or abrasive substances, which could jeopardise the sheen of the laminated surface. For more stubborn stains, use a soft brush or sponge on your kitchen worktop along with a specific glass cleaner or other liquid detergent. You can eliminate limescale deposits using lukewarm water and the possible addition of vinegar.

2. Beware of excessive heat on a laminate kitchen worktop

Never place pans that have just been removed from the hob on your laminate worktop. Always use pan stands, especially for coffee pots and pressure cookers, which reach very high temperatures. This is also a good rule for follow for worktops made of other materials, such as ceramic kitchen worktops, fenix kitchen worktops, quartz kitchen worktops and marble kitchen worktops.

3. Beware of stagnating water and acid substances on a laminate worktop

A laminate kitchen worktop as a rule is not affected by water or acidic foods; however, avoid water accumulating in the vicinity of joints in the worktop to prevent seepage and subsequent swelling of the material. In the case of acid stains, clean your laminate kitchen worktop immediately using a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not use acid-based “limescale-removing” or caustic detergents as they risk damaging the finish.
